Re: early spring veggie hanging basket
Great idea Kay, thanks. I think I'll nix the ivy and put in peas to hang like the ivy would have. In fact I think that since rosemary is difficult to find this early in the PNW I'll sub kale or Chinese kohlrabi for the rosemary. Think I'll use johnny-jump-ups for the pansies so the blossoms can go into the salad.
Great! Now for my sprouts to hurry along.

Oh, this sounds wonderful. I grow chives, thyme and strawberries in large tubs on the deck, but never thought of a hanging basket. Now y'all have me excited. Debs, I do like your idea of the peas instead of ivy. Would you use one of the more bush types, or go for the long look? Nonna

My snap peas get about 3 feet tall, that seems like a good length.

I like the idea of sugar snap in a hanging basket. I'll have to try that.

rose......oh boy this got me thinking of a project for hubby.... .......we dont have a covered back porch....just cement.....i wonder if he could build me something to run across the front of the porch at the edge of the porch and back yard grass and then i could hang all kinds of baskets up he doesnt need to put a roof on it or anything.....just frame something across.....kinda like a loooong arch that part of of yard gets the full sun in the summer time....it would be up off the ground so the kids could still play on and off the porch without tramplining on our veggies!

Don't forget, the peas are going to want to climb if they find something to climb.
