Yes, it is Napa cabbage. The center of it that shows in the picture is the part sold in grocery stores. But, the leaves around it are also great to eat. We sometimes pull off a couple of the outer leaves and use them for cabbage rolls.

The Bok Choy is about ready to harvest. Looking forward to digging into some Sautéed Bok Choy! Another Napa Cabbage is beginning to develop, too. I have some seedlings of both Bok Choy and Napa Cabbage growing to replace these as they are harvested. Will keep them growing all winter long with succession planting.

Jalapeno Pepper Plant Eaten
Went out to check on the greenhouse this afternoon, and discovered that most of the Jalapeno Pepper plant had been eaten by something. This is a plant that was transplanted from the raised bed into a 5-gallon bucket to overwinter it in the greenhouse. What in the world could have eaten the plant inside the greenhouse? Didn't take long to find the culprit! Can't believe it got that big before I knew it was there. Ugh!

Well that’s a bummer! They are amazing hiders. With dodging the freeze last night, I need to get my cold frame going in earnest.

sanderson wrote:So the jalapeno recovered from the tobacco worm?
Yes, much to my surprise, it sprouted a bunch of new leaves, and then it started blooming again. It has about a dozen peppers on it that are about 1/2" long now.

Apparently the egg was already on the plant before I dug it from the outside raised bed and moved transplanted it into a 5 gallon bucket to move it into the greenhouse.

Re: Ohio Gardener's Greenhouse
The daytime temps in the greenhouse have been getting into the high-80's to low-90's, and it has caused the lettuce and spinach to bolt to seed. The Swiss Chard, Bok Choy, Napa Cabbage, and Tumbling Tom tomatoes are all doing good, but I had to cut off the lettuce and spinach plants and clean that part of the bed to get it ready for replanting. Not sure what will go in there yet.

It is kept around 50ºF at night. Part of the warmth is provided by black water barrels that heat during the day, and supplemented with a gas heater.

Transitioning the greenhouse from winter greens to summer vegetables. All of the greens, including the lettuce, Chinese cabbage, and Bok Choy have bolted to seed, and had to be removed to the compost tumbler. The Swiss Chard is still growing, but will soon bolt to seed as well. After cleaning and refreshing the bed, planted some Beit Alpha cucumbers and dwarf cherry tomatoes.

Re: Ohio Gardener's Greenhouse
Will you be using the greenhouse during the summer? Adding a shade cloth, opening the doors/windows?

Yes, I have Beit Alpha cucumbers growing in the raised bed already, and will probably start some new Tumbling Tom tomatoes in the hanging baskets.
Yes, the shade cloth will go on in about a week - it is already getting up to 100ºF in the afternoons, and needs cooling down. It has a thermostatically controlled exhaust fan and powered intake vent to pull air through it, so can't leave the door or windows open for it to work properly.
