Carrots
How will I know when my carrots are ready to be picked? They have some fairly long green stems coming out of the ground so I pulled 2 of them and they were just teeny tiny little things, barely resembling a carrot. Its like they barely grew at all under the soil.
On the bright side, I picked a good harvest today, enough for a simple salad: leaf lettuce, tomatoes, beans, a small squash, and a cucumber.

It takes approximately 3 months from the planting of seeds until harvest of the carrots. Usually by the time they are ready for harvest, you will see the top of the carrot showing above the soil by a half-inch or so - that will give a good idea of the size of them. I periodically stick a finger down in the soil beside a carrot to feel the size of it so I know how they are developing.
"In short, the soil food web feeds everything you eat and helps keep your favorite planet from getting too hot. Be nice to it." ~ Diane Miessler, "Grow Your Soil"
Re: Carrots
Thanks, I'll look to see if they start growing above the soil. The finger in the soil thing is a great idea too, I should have thought of that.
