Assistance Needed: Sugar Snap Peas Yellowing and Wilting
Hello fellow Square Foot Gardeners,
I'm reaching out to the community for some advice on an issue I'm experiencing with my sugar snap peas. Recently, I've noticed that the leaves have started turning pale yellow, becoming soft, and wilting. I've attached some images for reference.
Some quick facts about my setup:
-I follow a strict SFG method.
-My plants are in a location where they receive partial sunlight in Dallas, TX (late-afternoon/evening sun).
-I water them regularly, but I try not to overdo it.
I've tried to figure out if I'm watering too much or if there are any pests, but I cannot identify a cause.
Despite these efforts, I'm unable to pinpoint the exact problem. I'm wondering if anyone has faced a similar issue and could share their insights or suggestions on what further steps I should take to diagnose and treat my plants. Could this be a nutrient deficiency or something else?
Here are the images of my plants:
I truly value this community's wealth of knowledge and experience and would greatly appreciate any guidance you can provide to help me get my sugar snap peas back to good health.
Thank you in advance for your time and help!
Warm regards,
Adam

Welcome to the forum from Ohio!
Not a lot of information here to allow for good advice, such as your soil mixture, the age of the bed/soil, etc., but the symptoms suggest significant over watering, causing root rot. If that is the case, there is not cure for it other than pulling out the plants and allowing the soil to dry a little. However, if you see root rot when you pull out the plants, do not immediately replant peas in the same spot again since the fungi that caused the root rot will still be present in the soil.

Were they producing and stopped? Or are they still putting on snap peas? I agree with the root rot/over watering thing with the information we are given. Anything else in the bed affected? It doesn’t sound like it. What else is in there?

Adam, welcome to the Forum from California.
My first thought is this is summer planting time and peas are a cool weather crop. I may be wrong, as you are 8A and I am 9B. I tried to find a vegetable planting guide through the Dallas County Master Gardener but what I thought would work, wouldn't open. This is the best I could find.

My second thought is the afternoon evening sun (west) exposure for peas. The western reflected sun may be too harsh for peas.
My third thought is yellow lower leaves are somewhat normal. I can't post photos at this time.
Maybe OG and SR are correct and there is root rot.

That is an excellent thought, sanderson, one I was overlooking here since this is actually the right time of year for those crops. Maybe it just isn’t the best climate for them?sanderson wrote:Adam, welcome to the Forum from California.

They haven't started producing. I planted them when it was much cooler a few months ago here in Dallas, but I have limited light and it got hot quickly. Nothing else is affected. There are cherry tomatoes, curly kale, dino kale, carrots, radishes, basil, arugula, broccolini, butterhead lettuce and romaine lettuce.Scorpio Rising wrote:Were they producing and stopped?
