I remember when I was young my uncle send me to pick so vegetables from winter vegetable storage.
Storage was made in the ground about 3'-4' deep 2 ' W x 5'L full with sand, on top cover with straw
Inside there was many root vegetables . ... nice fresh looks like you just get it from a garden.

Anyone of you have better idea?

I have been thinking about doing a root cellar, but that is as far as I have gotten on that project. This year I did canning, freezing and dehydrating to store my garden's bounty.

Storey Publishing put out a great booklet called Build Your Own Underground Root Cellar by Phyllis Hobson. I love their booklets, I have at least a dozen of them. The ISBN is 978-0-88266-290-9. It's definitely on my "Things I Dream Of" list!
