Finding Vermiculite in Europe
Hello-Bonjour-Guten Abend -Hallo- Buongiorno-Buena sera (I'm sure I'm forgetting someone)
If you're struggling with where to buy vermiculite, the database is now online. I entered all the sources I found posted in the forums, but if you have found somewhere else, please visit the forum here:
https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/Vermiculite-Entry-Form-h1.htm
You'll see that they've set up a separate database for International...and at the moment, European sources are all that's listed.
Hope this helps...

Vermiculite in Ireland
Hello all,
Vermiculite is sold at least in Ireland by the builders providers because they use it to insulate the chimneys. Mostly they only sell coarse vermiculite- the one that you want -for about 20 to 30 Euros per 100 litre bag. B & Q or Homebase want for 10 litres 13 to 16 euros and only have the fine version. So it's the builders area...
Greetings
Andrea

Re: Finding Vermiculite in Europe
I just added to the Uk listings. Dupre Minerals Ltd has a website which lists stockists
www.dupre-vermiculite.co.uk the price will vary depending on the stockist, ie Travis Perkins, the builder's merchant, Micafil, 100 litres for £14.88.

Re: Finding Vermiculite in Europe
cheapest UK supplies for vermiculite I can find are from some of our local builders merchants or specialist insulation product suppliers. ( the big boys appear far more expensive )
This week 17 Nov 2011 it was between £10 to 13 plus vat @20 % per 110 litre bag
A 110 litre bag stands about 1150 mm high by 300 mm thick by 400 mm wide if you want to guesstimate cubic capacity in other measurenments
You might have to ask for vermiculite chip insulation or expanded silica chip insulation or blown mica chip insulation or a combination of any of those names .
From my enquiries lots of supplier do know what people are using it for wrt :- soil less growing mediums & hydroponics

Re: Finding Vermiculite in Europe
I ordered 12 x 100 litre bags of coarse vermiculite from Keyline Builders Merchants. It's worth asking what discount they will give you for in these recessional times for they want your money to stay afloat.
It is the same as the one mentioned two threads up .
ie " Dupre "
It seems they are the big brothers in Travis & Perkins , plus a lot more UK builders merchants.
The price ended up at £ 15 per 100 litre bag ( 3.5 cubic feet ( ish ) which is a lot cheaper than a local insulation company who quited £ 16 plus vat per 100 litrte bag
I got hold of a metric standardized box cardboard box of just under 1 cubic foot volume ( 10 inches by 11.5 x 14.4 internal ) and it made the measuring out a cinch .

VERLITE
Here in Spain you can find Vermiculite in Gijon. The name of the product is Verlite (from VERMICULITA Y DERIVADOS) and fortunately I can buy it in a shop near my house in Madrid. 125 liters bag for 20 €.
http://www.vermiculitayderivados.com/
I don't know if they accept orders out from Spain.

Vermiculite in Germany
Good morning,
I have just entered a German source for Vermiculite into the database.
I found it at the local Raiffeisen Markt. It was listed in the online catalog and the local store ordered it for me. Price for 100 liters: € 17.50 and a very friendly and helpful staff.
It was quite funny because they questioned me about it. They had never heard of it before
Happy gardening
Astrid

Re: Finding Vermiculite in Europe
They're in the database, to which I would add following information:
PULL RHENEN B.V. in Rhenen, NL, telephone +31 (0)318 47 10 01, open Monday through Friday 07:30-16:15, sell it in 100 liter bags (120 cm x 60 cm they said, abt. 10 kilos each) at €22.00 VAT inclusive. Cash only (no "pin" machine). It's agricultural grade. I'm heading out there one of these weeks...
