Monsoon does not = RAIN
I frequently see mention of our AZ Monsoon season and people mistakenly thinking we get weeks of torrential rain. We do get torrential rains in the summer but nothing like is seen in movies. A common misconception is that the Monsoon is a rain storm, not so. As one of our local weather forecasters reminds us annually a Monsoon is a seasonal shift in wind patterns that can produce the conditions to cause rainfall. India receives a great deal of rain with the annual Monsoon, most of Arizona does not. The greater Phoenix area receives about 8.5" of rain annually at the official rain measuring station while some points around the region have received 5"+ in a single storm. We have a Monsoon but it usually does not produce a lot of rain.

Now see, I thought that "monsoon" for Arizona meant lots of rain. My sister-in-law who lived in Glendale, AZ would mention it was monsoon season and lots of rain was what I imagined.

Cranky, I'm jealous. You get 2X or 3X the rain we have been getting in recent years.
