In my valley 'they' say to plant peas on Good Friday.  So I did.  It is actually a bit early but the whole season seems early, lilacs have buds.  I planted 8sq of Golden sweet snow peas, half hte package.  If it is too early and they rot I will seed again.  I plant thicker than recommended about 12-16 seeds per sqf.

This is hte time to get over wintered compost piles humming.  Prep were you will soon be planting broccoli cabbage lettuce all your cool weather crops.  Maybe I should say, 'I', because the rest of you are south and earlier than me.  It is a busy time.

How are peoples tomatoes and pepper starts doing?
Mine just have their second leaves.  Soon I should up pot them.  ANd get the broccoli started and bok choy and lettuce and other cool crops that I transplant.

THe weather has been gorgious this week. The orach is up! That means it is time to start seeding in the garden stuff like spinach and maybe lettuce and radishes and first peas (planted on Good Friday and then snowed and froze hard promptly)

Today my son helped me spread compost in the greenhouse and dig it in.  It has some finishing to do but I think the worms will do that best.  It should be ready to plant in 2-4 weeks.  Everything is moving too fast, at least 2 weeks earlier than usual.

We got the bean bed ready, just a touch of compost for it.  This year we put a cattle panel across length wise for the beans to climb.  I'll plant bush beans under the arch.

Broccoli bed is set to go.  I planted some onion sets in it for green onions.  I seeded the broccoli in soil blocks this week, they are just starting to sprout now.  Seeded lettuce and oriental greens and chard too, all on the window sill.

I sure hope my aggressive weeding in the asparagus bed did not hurt any shoots, I saw none so thought I was safe.

Next week I think will be good for seeding carrots!  I wonder if we are going to do a carrot week this year on the forum.  I have 4 kinds for this year.  I'll mix them and see how it works.

The snow peas are up Very Happy   To celebrate I planted the sugar snap peas.
I should seed carrots this weekend but I see so many slug eggs in that bed.  I wish i knew of something that would eat the darn eggs.

There is a beneficial nematode that eats slugs. I don't think it is sold in the United States yet, but they have it over in Europe. I went to a company yesterday asking if they have it here yet but haven't received an answer. I'll let you know if they do.

Thanks, CC.  I was looking for it but have not seen it yet.  The scanmax stuff is for other grubby things and can not pierce the slime coat of slugs.
