Here are some articles relating to styrene. My interpretation is that the polystyrene containers are fairly safe but styrene itself is not so safe.

Thanks. Looks like it is safe as i'm using those discarded polystyrene containers that hold the veggies.

Just a note here on recycling #s. If the number inside the recycle symbol is a 1, 4, or 5, it's safe for food items. The #2 is usable, but I wouldn't use it long-term.
If you see other numbers, do not use them for planting, storing, etc. as they leach chemicals you may not want....
