Any Raspberries for Zone 9?
Every time I get excited about growing raspberries, I discover they only go to zone 8. Anybody in Zone 9 have a variety that grows here?
Re: Any Raspberries for Zone 9?
Have you done a Bing/Google search for hot weather berries? Or contacted the Master Gardener/County Ag Extension in your county? There is a Berry Lady near Fresno who has a stand at the summer farmers market. The local worm man has berries (thornless at that!) growing in a long 1' wide raised bed (with worm castings). Whe I was a little girl, I picked wild blackberries in the canal when it was dry. From what I have read, raspberries need shade protection from the sun.

I belong to Listia (auction site for points instead of money). They just had an auction for
Raspberry 'Fallgold' raspberry starts. I Googled it and found that regular Fallgoods only go to zone 8, but everbearing Fallgoods go to zone 9. Since these are everbearing, I'm in zone 9, I want raspberries, and these were basically free, I went ahead and bid on them. They should be here this week. YEE-HAH! I can't wait to try them. I'll let you know if they survive the summer.

Good for you! I'll bet you're wicked excited!
I was so excited when I got my raspberry starts last year. I built a box and filled it with MM & extra compost in record time! 2 x 7. Planted 14 plants in zig zag. And then in late summer/early fall I got fruit enough fill a couple of little baggies and freeze them!
