Planting time?

Planting time?
Am a new gardener to the Phoenix area (although we've been here 30 years) and, according to the Maricopa County Garden Planning Calendar, July is the month for planting beans, peppers, and tomatoes. Seems like it is far too hot to transplant my peppers and tomatoes. Any advice?

Re: Planting time?
My guess is that they mean seeds to plant while the nighttime soil temps stay above 70, but this is my first year, so better wait for the experts to weigh in.
Re: Planting time?
PapaRed, I would contact the County Ag Commissioner's office for clarification. If my information is correct, tomatoes can be grown in the winter in AZ (specific areas). Lucky you
Re: Planting time?
Hi PapaRed. Welcome from Atlanta, GA! Glad you're here!
You might also check gardenate.com. Just put in your zip code.
And be sure to look for Brainchasm's posts in the Search area in the upper left of your screen. He has a very successful garden in AZ or in your Regional tab from the home page.
We love pictures... (hint, hint) :-)

Planting time?
Thanks for the info.....I have sent a PM to a long time member here in the valley, and am confident he will respond with some first-hand local information based on his experience.

PapaRed
from Kelejan in British Columbia.
Never too late to start gardening.
Re: Planting time?
PapaRed, The transplants will probably need plant sun shade until they get acclimated. It may be too hot now for the plants to flower and the flowers to set, but come Sept, it may be just perfect. Please take photos. We love photos!
