Re: lower south sep 2016
I finally got enough something from my garden to justify setting up the canning pot. Mild Shishito peppers and banana peppers. I canned 6 pint and a half jars of peppers and 1 pint and a half of banana pepper rings. Last week I raided my sister's scuppernong grape vine and canned did 8 pints and 1 half pint of grape jam. Also last week I bought peaches and canned 12 quarts and 6 pint and a half jars. That's it, I'm done for the year.
Mustard greens are coming up in the beds. I'm planting as squares become available. I'll eat some and dig under what's left before I leave for PI at Thanksgiving. Hope the mustard will kill of some of the soil pathogens for the spring garden.
Still keeping my DIL in eggplant.

Kay, you are a canning ninja! Nice! I plan to put in a couple grape vines next year, trying to place them as to not impede mowing operations!

Re: lower south sep 2016
I planted 3 grape vines (bare root) and got a small root from my sister's vine this year. Hope to have a few grapes on each vine next year to test out the flavor and then maybe enough for table grapes the following year. Not expecting canning amounts until year 3.
Also planted 4 blueberry bushes and have space for one more. They had berries on them when I bought and planted, so hoping next year to have a crop.
Noticed one of my $5 pear trees that I planted in the 100 degree weather is not only living but has put out a single stem of blooms. I know I should cut them off because they are going nowhere, but it is kinda nice to see and a bee visited for nectar. Remember for next year bee!!!!!
