Re: Recommended store bought compost - Photos of composts
Anyone in the Billings, Montana area use Rocky Mountain Compost? One yard delivered for $152. It looks like it may still need some screening, but at $5.63/ cu ft, I think that is a decent price. https://rockymountaincompost.bulkdelivery.app/product/14-compost

Espoma is a good company for organic fertilizer, but their Land and Sea Gourmet Compost contains peat moss and limestone. It cannot be used as one of our composts.

I saw this at one of the big box stores -- think it was Walmart, but not sure -- and was surprised that it was about 1/2 partially composted wood chips. If it were sifted, most of it would not pass through the screen.
I just went to the Espoma site to look it up, and found this listed as the ingredients:
"This product is regionally formulated from 35-45% aged forest products, sphagnum peat moss, humus, limestone to adjust pH, lobster meal & crab meal."
"In short, the soil food web feeds everything you eat and helps keep your favorite planet from getting too hot. Be nice to it." ~ Diane Miessler, "Grow Your Soil"

True.
With this Espoma product, it's a no-go for too many reasons.
