Tuesday evening I put a bunch of seedlings in the beds. Finishing 6 of 8 beds. I wanted to cover them but ran out of daylight and time. Work is always getting in the way of gardening. Wednesday called for clear but a little windy. 25 MPH sustained with gusts to 50+ ISN'T a LITTLE windy weather guy!  Almost all the seedlings are gone or buried in all the planting media piled up along the south side of EVERY bed.  Lil' Goners 671790 Fortunately everything that was established looks OK.  The local ACE hardware store greenhouse was pretty messed up. At least my greenhouse is still in a box in the garage.  Not going to attempt that until the dead calm summer days.

Ugh and Argh! Blasted wind! That's really horrible.  I've had the wind kill a few of my transplants while hardening off, and had my eggplant transplants shred each other with their thorny leaves, but nothing like what you're describing.

My condolences! That wind was vicious. It never seemed to let up and got colder all day. Thankfully I had nothing newly planted and the greenhouse stayed up. After 5 years of it shedding parts when that wind hits, knock on wood, I got it all secured thoroughly.

The wind here all year has been wicked and in-predicted...unrelenting really.  Crazy.  And the weather people seem to have no idea when or how bad it is going to be...just happens...bummer..... Mad

This is two years in a row. I don't think I'll try for three, patience may be the virtue after all. That and overbuilt cold frames. Really rethinking the Harbor Freight green house after yesterday.

I get it....never half a greenhouse, but year to year there is so much variation.

That's heartbreaking. Even with all that new radar and weather forecasting technology, meteorologists still aren't any better at predicting the weather than they were 30 years ago.

When I replace my current greenhouse I will ask these people for advice.  I sold them some sheep once and buy their plants in the spring.  Their greenhouses are stout and functional.  (Unlike a popular greenhouse in this area that is stout but not enough light to really grow more than seedlings in)

This is a picture of their DIY kit.  That solid north wall makes it really stout. I would want to make that the west wall because that is where the wind hits and I get too much western sun in the summer.

I also see a lot of these molded fiberglass one piece greenhouses. They are not as well insulated (single wall) as the poly carbonate double wall ones but very stout if anchored well. This is what appeals to DH, maybe because he wouldn't have to do anything besides concrete piers to anchor it to.

Turan, could you post the above photos with descriptions in this thread? I don't want them to get buried. Thanks
