Re: Grass in garden boxes
My tomato bed was overrun last year with it, apparently, the “composted” straw had a lot of viable seeds in it. Grrr!
I layered newspaper all over it, and covered that with about 2” of Mel’s Mix, thin layer, heavy on compost for sure. And let it sit and bake. Seemed to do the deal!

Enots, What type of grass? How deep are your beds and what did you fill them with? Are the isles around the boxes covered or mulched to prevent grass from creeping in or their seeds from being blown in? Photos?

Hi Enots. Welcome from Atlanta, GA!
I gotta agree with SR - cover & bake. You might also try black plastic & roast the suckers.
Photos would be helpful.....

Your first question is just the right question to help me as my first two 4x4 beds are now over run with grass. I have started snipping all the growth above ground and I do realise that the solution is not to dig the roots as it only means the soil will give open arms to any seed that will be there. So i am going to follow the advice and get the beds ready for the fall planting.
Let it bake, but do not add compost until it has finished baking, as you will kill beneficial organisms. I am now going out before our temps reach 38C/100F. See what I can get done in one hour before I melt.
