I'm new to SFG, though my brother, who lives in Colorado, has done SFG for a few years and encouraged me to try it.  I'm starting somewhat ambitiously with a 4' x 12' bed and am planting a variety of vegetables and herbs.  I'm looking forward to this experience and am glad to have found this forum with its wealth of information.   Very Happy

Welcome, wolfskehl!  You are starting out ambitiously!  Have you read Mel’s book?  What are you planning to grow?

Hi and welcome from Northern California. You'll be amazed at how much you can grow in a 4x12 bed. Cool

Wolfshehl,  Welcome to the Forum from Central California!  glad you\'re here  We are here to help if you need us.  A wealth of information can be found in the book All New square Foot Gardening, by the creator and founder, Mel Bartholomew.  There are 3 Editions and I recommend that you buy the most recent, the 3rd Edition.  It has extra information and lots of photos.

I'm planning on growing cucumbers, sweet bell peppers, 5 different types of tomatoes, looseleaf lettuce, spinach, spring onions, snow peas, snaps (green beans for those non-Southeners), eggplant, carrots, celery, summer squash, winter squash, and various herbs (basil, chives, oregano, and a couple others).  I'll alss be sprinkling in some marigolds to help with pest control and using ollas to keep my water use to a minimum.  I haven't gotten Mel's book yet, though it's on my list.  Until I do, I'm doing lots of internet research and talking with a master gardener that works at the same organization that I do.  I'm very excited about this project and hope that the weather cooperates this year.  Last year was cooler than average and very wet - I'm beginning to think that I'm now living in the Pacific Northwest!   Very Happy
