I am frustrated
Hello, I like gardening, but the last couple of years we have been overwhelmed with squirrels. And they just climb in and eat. the last time I planted anything was 2018, and I planted tomatoes I grew early from seed. I had a wonderful group of beefsteaks. I said OK I will pick tomorrow because I knew about the squirrels and the tomatoes were getting red. I went out the next morning and each tomato was eaten in half! I picked them but I caught squirrels coming to eat them. I constructed wire cages around all the plants. and they found a way in... I did save the cherrys but had trouble getting to them myself. Just very frustrated. Ginny

That does sound very frustrating. Just out of curiosity, are there any foxes or coyotes in your neighborhood?

The Forum Search box leads to 24 threads involving squirrels. It's a common problem.

Hang in there Ginny! I feed mine. They are better friends than enemies. 2 years ago, they thought the eggplants looked like a yummy ripe sweet fruit--NOPE. Took one bite and left it for dead. Wilted and wasted...

Try Fox Urine
I had only one pesky squirrel, but I sprinkled Fox Urine (try Amazon) around my garden and problem solved!

In Queens, NY, the squirrels have apparently gone on the attack!

Re: I am frustrated
We have plenty of Coyotes, and we have a few Fox, but they don't bother the squirrels. Squirrels can flee up a tree long before the coyote or fox can get to them.

NY squirrels!! I'm wondering if they are hungry because folks aren't out as much and therefore the "squirrel feeders" aren't out supplementing their diet. ??

Squirrels galore
Here in North Texas the squirrels are overly abundant this year.. They get into the vehicle engines and our attics, chew water hoses in half..
We also have a lot of people who have lost pets to hawks, coyotes and even cats, so they are killing off the predators for squirrels. I am guessing that is one of the reasons we have so many. I am posting a link to a site, that talks about squirrel predators, I have made a shortened version of the link, so if it looks weird, I promise I have clicked on it and it was ok.

It looks like snakes are our best bet, they get into the trees and find the baby squirrels ( I know its sad, but we are overran with them) We also have a couple Hawks in our area now. I believe that if we left nature alone, it would take care of the over populations..unfortunately people kill all snakes they see, not just the poisonous ones.. Good luck, cultivate your snake population and don't kill the Birds..
