Pakalanas
I have a box of Pakalanas but they are not doing so well. The box is too shallow and the MM got compacted down. I'm afraid to rip it out and replant them.
Does anyone know if I can just add MM to the box and cover the existing plant without any of them dying?

I decided to add more MM to the box and it worked! My plants are doing better. No flowers yet but maybe next year, as the season is almost over for it to bloom.

Congrats! So glad to hear that worked out for you! (I wouldn't know a pakalana if it bit me... what is it??)
Re: Pakalanas
Pakalanas are also known as Chinese Violets. They are small light green flowers that smell so heavenly. We use it to make leis.
I tried to post a photo but am still not so great at using the computer.

Hey, glad to hear from you again. We don't see much of you. Have you got any pictures of your garden you can share?

Pakalanas
Thanks!
Here's a link on the Pakalanas. http://www.staradvertiser.com/columnists/20110214_fragrant_pakalanas_beauty_threatened_by_wind_and_salt.html?id=116144339
Mine are still growing in a 2 x 5 SFG. The box deteriorated and needs re-filling. Anyone have tips on replacing the box without removing the plants?

Re: Pakalanas
Well, without knowing what kind of box, I presume you had wood?
I'd just get new wood, cut to the outside measurements of the current bed, depending on how corners were made and with what, just nail/screw on. My DH used 2 x 2 in for a post, he put this on the inside of corner and he used screws. Mine will prob. have to have some replacment parts in the spring.I will just get new boards and use longer screws to go into the same corner posts.
Do you think the Pakalanas would grow in South Carolina? I prob. could not find seeds either.
