Main website and Flash...
Is there any serious discussion about moving away from the use of a 100% flash site?
Flash has its place... and when used judiciously, it is a good web development tool. But as the main site stands now, it is quite painful to use.... or not use as the case may be.
Might I suggest some consideration going into putting the main site content into a themed WordPress setup? I'll donate any WooTheme the foundation wants to use... I have a developers license to all their themes and would be happy to "consult" with the current web team...

Amen to that.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a WordPress site. Any html/xml will do.

Sure...
I was just suggesting a themed WP site because once they are setup, they are VERY easy to maintain... even for NON-techie folks.

I strongly disapprove as well. It's slow; can't be bookmarked properly; and few reading machines for the disabled are able to read it. I had that conversation with Alan last March.
There was a brief inconvenience on the forum several weeks ago as the web site URL was changed from com to org. At the time, I had my fingers crossed that they were leaving Wix in the dust, but it wasn't meant to be.
That's what I know. If you have a good argument to present, you can contact the Web site tech person: Alan a t squarefootgardening dot c om

I'm sorry but that site is poorly designed and hard to navigate. And on an iPad of course doesn't work at all. I skip the main site and just come straight to the forums.
Re: Main website and Flash...
I hear they are working on a new main site, but that is all I have heard.

Don't get me wrong folks... I don't mean to make this a bash the website fest... I just wanted to offer one solution to the "problem".

It sounds like the 'problem' is convincing the right person that there 'is' a problem. No easy task sometimes.

The Foundation is revamping everything and I think they started with the store. I heard a roll out on the flash site is in the works. Since 95% of everything to do with SFG Foundation is volunteer based things just take time.

I hope you're right, mm. There's lots of good info we could be referencing instead of linking to off-site pages.
Problems with the Forum Tab
I have not been able to access the various forums through the Forum Tab since about 10:00 Pacific Time late last night.
If I click on the Forum Tab, I get the following along with the Latest Topics.
Current date/time is Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:21 am
Your last visit was on Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:01 am................
Good Morning, Furbalsmom!
Is it just me, cause I did fool around with some settings regarding cookies on my lap top, or is everyone having this problem.
Not getting the expected response when I click on the Forums Tab, I am also unable to determine who else is on line and the birthday information.
I would have thought if they were working on the system last night, they would be done this morning.

How is it now Furbalsmom?
Blackrose PM'ed me she was having the same problem. I took all the extras off the home page to see if any of those were causing the trouble. In FF I am not seeing the same thing you are seeing, but hubby's PC still on IE is.
Let me know if you can see now. With me taking all the extras off I can now see normal on hubby's PC.

Re: Main website and Flash...
I must have caused the problem last night. I noticed that the forum was loading WAY slow and it was cause of that butterfly link I had there to promote the essay contest, so I figured I would bump the thread and delete the graphic. For some reason it didn't cause a problem in FF, which is what I use and I didn't think to check it in IE cause all I did was remove a graphic.
So for now I have pulled all the little extra things off the site until I can figure out which one is clashing and causing the problem. I'll have to work on it tonight.
Glad it's working now, sorry for the inconvenience.

I would think this thread would be noticed by the right people better in the feedback area, no?

Re: Main website and Flash...
BBG, the people with the power have been told on numerous occasions. They are aware of the problem, it's just a matter of time and the foundation and their volunteers getting to it on their list.

Flash Work Around
Howdy Folks:
If you use a computer that does not have Flash one work around is to go to Google and type in your password for the forum. You should see a link there with your profile. Click on it and then enter the fourm as you normally would using your user name and password. Another way is to type in https://squarefoot.forumotion.com and go from there. Not the best but it works.
God Bless, Ward and Mary.
