Baseball Standings..
I know it's early, but we seem to have some avid fans in here. This is NL Central country for me. If you are an AL person, I can't help much, but you can certainly copy this idea from time to time.
Here are your standings as of the 5th of April. I know it's early, but I'm so glad baseball is here. Baseball, a cold beer, my BBQ grill, and my garden all seem to go hand-in-hand these days.
1. Reds
2. Cubs
3. Pirates
4. Cardinals
5. Brewers
6. Astros
I think we can all agree the Astros have no shot. At least Milwaukee finally won a game. But, my Cardinals can't seem to solve the Pirates....how pitiful.

You know my team-Cubbies, but I will settle for the Sox winning. Being in TX I also follow the Rangers, closest team to me, and Astros. But, just because I am in TX does NOT mean I follow the cowboys, the only reason I'd go to Jerry's Monstrosity (what the locals call the new stadium) is to see my Bears play.

I'm not saying this out loud, but my Redlegs are 4-0! Woo Hoo!

Just remember your front office is full of ex-Cardinals, as was part of your team last year. And, your manager is a former Cub.....nuff said there.

It's not the team's fault, it's the guy who wanted to take his goat to the game's fault. Maybe Wriggly Field should have goat day to reverse the curse.

Nah, they should've allowed Mark Cubin to buy the franchise. That would scare the you know what out of me.

We may be in trouble....if you believe in statistics (and what baseball fan doesn't?).
The last time the Reds started a season 5-0, they won the World Series....1990.
Makes a Cardinal think....

Nope, it's the goat

add to that the tiny little Artesians, (they are the people whom Old Style Beer steals their magical spring water from, they hate all Chicagoians.).

Re: Baseball Standings..
We've scored so many runs lately I'm afraid it might be the Astros turn today. Now I'm anxious - I'm never anxious this early in the season.
My family is from northern Ohio and I grew up an Indians fan. My brothers live in Columbus and still are, although they have really low expectations this year. I discovered it's way too hard to be an American League girl in a National League town, so I drank the cool-aid years ago and am now a true Reds fan. Last year was awesome and we're really hoping for more this year.
5-0 - oh my! And it's only an hour 'til game time!

Gotta tell ya.....NL is better baseball, strategically. Much more interesting to watch. I grew up a KC Royals fan in the heart of George Brett's career, and I would rather watch cruddy NL baseball than great AL baseball any day. The DH just has so much to do with ruining the strategy of late game double switches and pitching matchups. Not to mention sacrifice bunts and hit and runs. The AL has the talent, but the NL has the better game, imo.
As for the Reds, let's just keep you on a bit of a roll in April. You can cool off in August and let us all catch up with you. Deal??

Well, we usually trail off in May / June, so don't worry yet. And we head west after today. Was the last time we went 5-0 really 1990? Wow.

That used to be your "M.O.," but after last year, your pitchers arms never ran out of gas. I think you are the team to beat until someone else says so.
We go west with you, apparently. However, we have today off. You get to lollygag around out there while we have to watch San Francisco open their season and party like rockstars in front of us all weekend long. Friday, they raise their WS banner....and party. Saturday, they present the rings to their players before the game and fans.....and party. Sunday, they honor last year's rookie of the year....and party.
Our boys will be like, "Sheeeeesh, can't we just play baseball?? We had a cruddy year. Do we really have to sit and watch all this?" Hope it makes us mad and we sweep them. LOL.

Another Reds fan here; but I am also a Browns fan. Being in Central OH provides lots of options for fandom! The Astros are in last but have solved the Reds the past two games!

Can't hit. Can't pitch. That goes for both of you above me...lol. However, the Sox have paid FAR too much money for that to be the case for long.
Bring back Nolan Ryan!!!!! Until Greg Maddux, Nolan was my hero.

I used to say that Greg Maddux was my next ex-husband. I had such a crush on him! And LOVED to watch him pitch!

You will love this little story then....
I was at a Cardinal game back in the days of Maddux, Smoltz, and Milwood. Andres Galarraga was our ex-first baseman, but moved on to the Braves.
We went to the game early to watch McGwire and others take BP. We bought tickets in the outfield bleachers.
When we arrive, we missed the Cardinals taking practice. But, we saw the Braves. Galarraga came up and started rocking balls out of the park. Then....
He hits one that you can just tell is heading for us. It just had a look to it, ya know? My buddy and I are both contemplating what to do. Catch it? Get the heck out of the way? Show off for our girlfriends, or make idiots of ourselves? (My date became my wife, btw.)
We both start talking to each other while never taking our eyes off the ball screaming for our melons. We get caught in the middle and kind of put one hand out and the other over our faces.....laughing and calling each other a wuss.
As the ball comes in, we can tell it's going to hit really close to the top of the wall or in the flower garden right past the top of the wall.....an awkward bounce is coming. As we continue to brace for it, but peek out with one eye, we see........
FLAP!! This glove comes out of nowhere and snags the ball taking it back from being OUR souvenier and pulling it back into the field of play. The guy caught it!! I know it was only BP, but that was incredible!!!
The guy slowly jogs back towards centerfield and as he turns his head giving us that smirk, we recognize him as.........GREG MADDUX!! That freak was athletic enough to jump the fence and bring a ball back from over the wall.
Of course, Braves pitchers in those days were hugely competitive. So, over in right field, Smoltz saw what Maddux did. He grabbed a ball boy and had the boy start tossing balls over the fence into the bullpen. Smoltz spent the next 5 minutes trying to do the same thing, but never pulled it off.
It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen at the ballpark.

Re: Baseball Standings..
I was there for Lou Brock's 3000 hit. Pretty cool, my parents have the memento sheet they handed out. Of course since I was watching the Cards, that means my team was there too, but alas, I have never actually seen them win.
