My wife just picked and blanched the last of our collard greens. Or what was left of them...those cabbage worms had a good fall!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Sauteed my only garden red cabbage with some onion, EVOO, vinegar and spices. Along with the pork loin and carrots, onions and potatoes.
Wish I could taste or smell any of it. But I made it and ate some anyway. Yay me?
Hope it brings better luck than I had in 2020....

Sauteed red Swiss chard, a sweet potato, and thyme with the salmon.
I also harvested the last of the greet Snow Fairy tomatoes and the potted ginger. We have had such a mild winter so far that some of the summer plants have just kept on growing, including the parsley.

The last eggplant of 2020. Or the first of 2021. The plant hasn't set fruit for awhile, but hopefully as the days grow longer. This was seasoned and roasted in the oven.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Picked this overgrown beet today. Daughter cooked it in one of the solar cookers.
It came out a kind of translucent pink (this is just once piece, not the whole thing) :
Slightly sweet. Very slightly salty.

Bok Choy, Russian Kale, Chard
Here's a picture of russian kale and purple bok choy leaves that went into tonight's stir fry. There's also some chard in the pile. Sadly, the bok choy was not grown in the SFG. I grew it in a milk carton full of miracle grow potting mix. All the bok choy I attempted to grow in the SFG got attacked by bugs and failed to thrive. I've just started using diatomaceous earth, and have some hope that maybe the one's I've planted will make a come back.
There's also one leaf of broccoli/cauliflower. I learned last year that you can use just about every part of plants in the brassica family are edible. The purple brocauliflower in particular generates lots of excess foliage. I need to research if I can use brussel sprout leaves as well.

Not only can you use Brussels sprout leaves, they are delicious! Our local organic grocery store sells Brussels sprout leaves along with the other greens. Sauteed Brussels sprout leaves with bacon, onion, garlic, and a little red wine vinegar is a treat to behold.
The leaves picked from the top of the plant, when they are smaller than 4", are the best for eating.

Ate a few french breakfast radishes as a snack this afternoon. Having the radish greens + some bok choi, green onions, turnips, carrots, and herbs in a veggie\bean\wild rice soup.

Fall harvest sweet potato and today's fresh broccoli. The winter has been so warm that the 6 broccoli had to be harvested. Oh, and some of the sweet potatoes are sprouting.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
The broccoli starts were purchased and planted around Oct 1. The tall broccoli plants haven't started forming heads, but the "dwarf" variety produced early with full sized heads.

Looks like I should be looking into dwarf broccoli. The brassica growing season here is pretty short. Here's my first little broccoli/cauliflower head growing -- transplanted back in October!

What is the name of your "dwarf variety". Oh no, if you purchased starts you may not know the name of the variety.sanderson wrote:The broccoli starts were purchased and planted around Oct 1. Hearts of broccoli/cauliflower
The core or heart of the main stem of purple of Sicily cauliflower (or is it broccoli?) has a mild taste and a crisp texture not unlike that of water chestnut. I did need to use the band saw when cutting the core into pieces before slicing off the tough outer skin. I don't know if regular cauliflower has the same feature, since I've never tried to grow it!

Six-leaf salad
Six-leaf salad (cilantro, arugula, Merveille lettuce, Russian kale, brussel sprout leaf, chard) plus radish. (After the photo I added carrot, which sadly was not garden-grown).
