N&C Midwest: November & December 2022
In the gardens, I need to put things away but I’m letting some of the hardier annuals shine until they can’t anymore. I need to get my cold frame cleaned up. Will start my aerogarden soon with herbs, I have never grown them before in there!
What are you needing to do this Fall?

Re: N&C Midwest: November & December 2022
All the garden beds have been prepped and put to sleep until next summer. I started composting some of the many jack o' lanterns that we have here and continue to mulch leaves.
I cleaned the garden tools and have put most of them away. I didn't quite get the cold frame built like I had hoped too this fall. This is sadly a project that might be put on the back burner for me, but we shall see. That is a project that I would LOVE to get done this fall. (Fingers crossed)

My gorgeous English Ivy all fell down. It is headed to the compost heap.
I had a major allergic (ITCHYYYYYY) reaction while trying to plant my last tulip bulbs and daffodil—it was the tulips. I had to stop after only getting a dozen in the ground. Washing all another’s—at first I thought it might have been nettles???? Not sure.
Will try again, wearing gloves. Being way more careful. Jeesh!

Re: N&C Midwest: November & December 2022
The majority of the leaves are down around here too after that crazy wind Saturday! I managed to collect 35 lawn bags full of leaves from my neighbors and mulched them all for compost along with a five 33 gallon garbage bins full of mulched leaves from my own yard. I am hoping that is enough to mulch my beds throughout the summer and have enough "browns" for my compost heap until next October! LOL
For me, there isn't much more gardening left to do, so I am putting everything away until the next growing season.
Take care of yourself and I hope you have the chance to finish getting all those bulbs in!

Re: N&C Midwest: November & December 2022
OK, so tried the whole planting bulbs again—same weird allergic reaction???? And I wore gloves? Must be something else….not sure. But with the help of one of my kids got the spring blooming tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and narcissus’s in for next Spring!
Otherwise, just need to clean up asparagus bed and figure out what to do with the strawberries….not producing like they should. May be my fault.
Cold on the way! Bundle up!

As I have written before, where I live, snow is something to go see, not live in. I can imagine how tiring it can.
I love seeing everyone's snow photos. Please feel free to post snow photos here:

Same here Scorpio. Got down to -6*F last night.with highwinds and -30*F wind chill. We're all the way up to zero now. Really warming up now... "NOT". I just went out to the mailbox, about 40 feet from the door and wasn't sure if I was going get back to the house. That 30 to 40 mph wind gust felt like needles sticking in my face.Scorpio Rising wrote:It’s super cold here, air temp is -9*F, windy too—not sure what the windchill is but it’s cold. My little birds are huddled on my front porch under the winter-overturned wicker chair and ottoman. It dropped like 48* here overnight, they are confused I’m sure! Thank goodness the power has stayed on so far.

Good thing I had on two pairs of socks, gloves. long Johns, insulated hunting jacket and a wool hat. I thought I was going to get blown away. I'm so dam skinny, when I go outside, I have to go whichever way the wind is blowing.
