OG, How in the world does one keep a house warm during snowstorms like that? Are the studs 2"x6"?

It is not easy, but doable. Unfortunately our house is an older one built with 2"x4" studs.  But, many years ago we invested in a remodeling project with included heavy insulation, new seamless steel siding with foam insulation board under it, thermal windows, and central gas furnace with heat pump to replace the original electric baseboard heaters.
