Thanks Jennie, I have had a quick look at the web site and there is a lot of information on there. I will go through it all over the next few evenings.

I will also have a look at getting the book you recommend, I can read books a lot easier than the screen. Easier on the eyes.

I printed out that site so it would be easier to read for me. Smile It was about 10-12 pages...then I highlighted what parts I needed for easy reference. I used 2 colors...one for the LIKES and one for the DISLIKES...for picking out the good guys and the bad guys easier.

Smile

Post  dkruelle 5/4/2011, 11:24 am

My very first (early spring) box is growing, and I deliberately planted it up so that all the plants were companions or compatible. There are three plants that protect each other: lettuce, radishes, onions (any variety). The onions keep the cabbage moths away from the radish, and apparently the radish protects the lettuce. Onions are generally one of the good guys in the veg patch (e.g. carrots and onions are a classic combination). In the same box, again having made sure everything was compatible with everything else, are chard, spinach, sorrel, and beets. Everything's growing great--not one sign of any pests at all.

One combination to avoid is peas and beans. And tomatoes/potatoes (they attract the same pests/diseases, so you get a double whammy if you put them together).

I've got a whole list of different plants and their compatibilities (gleaned from books and the internet), and I'm working now to create sets of veg/herbs/flowers that will make good SFG boxes. So, more updates as I learn...
